Kuier met Afrikaners

Kuier met Afrikaners

Ja-nee, enjoy the more-ishness of biltong, or the heavenly satisfaction of malva pudding while listening to some boeremusiek. Afrikaners, descended mainly from Dutch, German and French settlers, developed a unique culture flavoured with delectables such as droewors, malva pudding and melk tert.

What do I get?

You get an experience you will not forget. Typically this includes a minimum of a 3 course meal, great conversation and insight into a unique culture.

What can I expect?

You will arrive at your hosts residence via either our arranged transport or on your own.  Dinner is usually at 7 so you should try to be there 5-10 minutes before. Your host will introduce themselves, you will relax, chit chat, have a meal and simply enjoy this unique experience.

What might the possible menu be?

Afrikaners are the masters of the comfort meal. You might well get to try some Potjiekos (ultra slow-cooked and mouthwateringly delicious stew) or Malva pudding (a delicious pudding with a spongy caramelised texture, hints of apricot jam and served with a warm custard or ice cream...yummmm!) And let us not forget, Afrikaners invented South Africa’s favourite snack - Biltong! Give these people an award!

What about alcohol?

Alcohol may or may not be served. This is up to your host and depends on their custom. Remember, you are there to experience their way of life and so whatever they typically do so will you!

How do I get there?

Pozay.com has screened and handpicked a host of taxi drivers that will get you to your dinner safely and on time. When booking, please be sure to let us know whether you require transport.

What will my host be like?

Your host has been screened and vetted by us, so expect a warm and friendly welcome. Our hosts love big crowds, so don't be surprised if they have their whole family present, or an old friend or two. This is how we roll in SA!  Just arrive, kick back and enjoy the ride.

How far is it from CT city centre?

Your host is in most cases located within 15mins of the city centre so even in peak hour traffic you should be relatively okay to get there on time.

Is this a child friendly experience?

All our hosts adore children, and you could very well be dining with their children as well. We do however request you do not bring any wild animals along, remember this is Africa and we have more than enough of our own.
